What is the Enneagram for the Workplace assessment?
The Enneagram is a rich and introspective personality framework that offers unique value for leaders and teams who are ready to deepen their personal growth. Unlike other assessments that focus on behavior or traits, the Enneagram explores core motivations, fears, and desires, for a team exploration that goes beyond simple workplace dynamics. Because of its emotionally focused approach, the Enneagram can take team conversations to a higher level—uncovering not just how people act, but why.
The Enneagram for the Workplace assessment published by Truity Psychometrics is the only scientifically validated Enneagram test designed specifically for teams, leaders, and organizations. Truity's original research leverages data from millions of users to reveal robust, practical insights that allow teams and leaders to use the Enneagram to improve understanding, facilitate communication, and foster cohesion in the workplace.
What does the Enneagram for the Workplace measure?
The Enneagram for the Workplace assessment is a broad measure of the personality traits underlying the Enneagram type framework. The assessment measures these key traits in order to match an individual to the Enneagram type which best fits their overall personality profile.

Is the Enneagram for the Workplace valid and reliable?
Popular personality systems like the Enneagram deserve the same level of scientific rigor as traditional psychological assessments. That’s why Truity’s Enneagram assessment uses an original test design that was statistically validated with a global sample of more than 23,000 test users. In the test design process, we combined established theory with modern psychometric methods to create one of the most thoroughly researched Enneagram tests available.
When you choose a personality assessment, it’s important for the test to pass important evaluations of validity. Valid tests are more accurate and produce consistent results that better support their use in coaching, training, and leadership development. In order to be valid, a psychological test must also be reliable – that is, it needs to produce similar results over time and across different questions. Personality tests should be able to demonstrate both reliability and validity to be considered legitimate.
Because of the depth of the Enneagram, we needed to design a test with sufficient complexity to capture meaningful information about a test-taker’s core motivations and potential for growth. Our assessment evaluates 21 distinct facets of personality, each of which was rigorously analyzed for reliability and validity to ensure the assessment captures meaningful differences between Enneagram types. Our analysis demonstrated strong reliability for each of the facets measured, as well as providing strong evidence for validity—i.e., that the assessment accurately measures the psychological patterns it is designed to assess.
Additionally, demographic studies reflected meaningful differences that align with established Enneagram theory. For example, women were more likely to get a Type 2 (Giver) result on the test, while men were more likely to get a Type 5 (Investigator) or Type 8 (Challenger) result.
More focused studies collected information on test-takers’ work values and satisfaction to confirm the test’s utility in workplace coaching and team building. Multiple findings confirmed the validity of Truity’s Enneagram assessment as a robust tool for understanding employee motivations and values. For example, Type 2s (Givers) were approximately three times more likely than Type 5s (Investigators) to prioritize meaningful relationships at work. The importance of values like creativity, security, advancement, and challenge also varied widely for different types, suggesting that the Enneagram reveals real differences in how workers are motivated and engaged.
These findings highlight how personality influences what people seek in their work and suggest that leaders can use the Enneagram to better understand employees' innate motivations, tailor development opportunities, and create environments where different personality types can thrive.
