What Spooks You the Most at Halloween, Based on Your Enneagram Type

Ghosts, ghouls and monsters are all pretty spooky. But for most people, the things that really scare us go much deeper, triggering the parts of ourselves that we’re constantly trying to protect. The Enneagram personality system reveals our core motivations that drive how we think and behave, and it also identifies our greatest fears: the thoughts and scenarios that truly keep us up at night.

So, what are you actually afraid of during spooky season? The answer lies in your Enneagram type! Here’s what each of the nine types fear the most at Halloween.

Type 1: Getting Blamed for Breaking the Rules

The deepest fear of the Type One is being seen as a “bad person” or in some way defective. They strive to make morally and ethically correct choices, and worry about making mistakes or being wrong. They have high standards for themselves and others, so getting blamed for sneaking a piece of someone else’s candy or cheating at Halloween Bingo (of which they would never do!) would be very scary.

Type 2: Being Abandoned in a Haunted House

Twos fear feeling unloved or unwanted by others, especially the people they care about the most. They’re careful not to be seen as too needy or selfish, for fear of driving people away. But what they secretly desire most is for others to express love and appreciation for them. Being left alone by the people they care about in a scary situation like a haunted house would feel like the ultimate betrayal!

Type 3: Not Being Invited to the Party

More than the other Enneagram types, Threes value maintaining a positive and successful image in the eyes of others. They fear being exposed as worthless or a fraud. Feeling left out is a major fear of the Type Three, as it means others may view them as insignificant or not valuable. Not getting an invite to an event that everyone else will be at is spooky enough to make any Three panic!

Type 4: Having the Same Costume as Someone Else

One of the greatest fears of the Type Four is having no special identity or personal significance. They want to be seen as unique to others as they see themselves. For this reason, Fours tend to be creative and would enjoy designing their own look for Halloween. So showing up to the party with the exact same costume as another person would be pretty spooky indeed!

Type 5: A Neverending Swarm of Trick-or-Treaters

Fives fear being overwhelmed by the world around them and not being able to cope. Intensely private, Fives worry about losing their autonomy and other people taking up their time and resources. They can deal with trick-or-treaters in small doses, but an unexpectedly large amount means they might run out of candy and still have to deal with people at their doorstep all night long… the horror!

Type 6: No Exit Signs in a Haunted House

Sixes fear being without support or guidance, and attempt to avoid danger or insecurity as much as possible. Because of this, they’re always on the lookout for signs of danger and attempt to be as prepared as possible for any scary scenario. Being trapped in a spooky environment like a haunted house with no observable way out would be horrifying for the Type Six!

Type 7: Missing Out On the Fun Because of School or Work

The deepest fear of the Type Seven is feeling deprived or missing out on the good life. They want to experience all of the worthwhile experiences that life has to offer, so having to focus their attention on something boring and mundane like school or work when they could be out trick-or-treating or partying with friends is scary enough to give any Seven goosebumps!

Type 8: Someone Putting a Spell On You

The biggest fear of the Eight is being controlled by other people. Eights fear vulnerability and being at the mercy of something or someone that they can’t control. Being put under someone else’s spell, and not being able to protect themselves or others from the outcome, would be pretty terrifying!

Type 9: Being Forced to Watch a Horror Movie with Eyes Wide Open

Nines fear conflict or tension that disrupts their inner peace. Being forced to do anything is scary for a Nine, as they’re anxious about being overlooked and not considered important. But being forced to do something like watch a gory horror movie, without hiding behind the blanket or bucket of popcorn when things get too intense? No thanks!
